Leadership Development
Student Council
Students in 7th and 8th grade are elected by the student body to represent them in the leadership of the school. Candidates “campaign” for a position, recite a speech in front of the student body and then an election is held with the students voting. Student Council members hold offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Religion Commissioner, Spirit Commissioner, and two General Commissioner positions. Two teacher mentors work with the Student Council at weekly meetings to plan events, address issues, and provide support to the school.
The purpose of Student Council is to serve as positive role models, to demonstrate good leadership, and to develop school spirit, as well as being a ministry of service to the school community. The Student Council coordinates activities such as the annual talent show, spirit week, community outreach, and recycling efforts to benefit our school, our community and our world. Our Student Council members are also instrumental ambassadors of Resurrection School who tour prospective students during our Open House events. In August of every year the Student Council participates in a 2-day Leadership Camp. You’ll recognize our Student Council members by their red sweaters.
Morning Assembly
Every Monday-Thursday, Morning Assembly is held in the Farana Center at 8:00 AM.
The assembly is hosted entirely by students. You will rarely see an adult with the microphone. Prayers, morning announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance comprise this daily ritual at Resurrection. With the guidance of Student Council members, classes take turns each week being the assembly leaders. As soon as early December, you will see students as young as TK leading prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance in front of the entire school. Parents are welcome to stay for this 5-10 minute assembly each morning.
Tutoring
Upper grade students are available to tutor younger students in Extended Care.
