Transitional Kindergarten Program Overview
Resurrection School’s Transitional Kindergarten program is designed for children turning age 4 by September 1st of the year they enter the program. This year, Transitional Kindergarten students will be in a combined class with Kindergarten. Their primary teacher will be assisted by an instructional aide.
The current TK arrival and dismissal schedule is:
8:00 AM – 3:00 PM Monday-Friday with 12:30 PM dismissal on Wednesdays
The morning is filled with a multitude of centers and activities, including Free-Choice, Circle Time, Workshops and Recess. Circle time and workshops, (or small group instruction), in Religion, language arts, and math readiness are all incorporated into the weekly curriculum. Like the offerings for our older grades, physical education, Spanish, music, and library time are also incorporated into the curriculum.
Small or fine motor skills are developed as students learn how to hold crayons, chalk, colored pencils, use eye-droppers, tongs, and small manipulatives. Traditional and time-tested activities such as open-ended art, (arts & crafts), play dough, and easel painting are offered.
Children in the Full Day program have lunch together followed by a rest period/nap, outside play and other activities.
Transitional Kindergarten Program Goals
Our program is designed to help the child develop his/her strengths and become a unique individual, yet be able to fit into society. We strive to provide the child with experiences that support success and self worth, while preparing him/her for kindergarten and the world beyond. The activities used to promote this growth will be centered around various themes which will be flexible enough to adapt to the interests and needs of the children.
In a Catholic school, religious development is of primary importance to us. It will be approached simply and in the total context of the child’s life. We believe values are cultivated in a child not only through direct teaching, but also through the example experienced in everyday situations. We will learn short prayers to be said at meals and group times. Songs, stories and activities will often be of a religious nature.
