Mr. Hernan Calderon
6th Grade Teacher
I grew up in Southern California in the county of San Bernardino. I attended California State University, San Bernardino where I studied Public Relations and Mass Communications. Throughout my college years I participated in clubs such as the Catholic Newman Club and Campus Film Club. I then received a Master’s degree in Psychology from Los Angeles Pacific University (formally, Azusa Pacific University: University College).
Once graduated, I continued in ministry work in teaching parish communities how to initiate youth ministries at their local parishes, create spiritual retreats, and teach religious formation. This would eventually lead me to work as a youth minister at a parish for a few years. All the while working in schools in long-term substitute teaching assignments.
After much discernment, I decided to go back to school to get my teaching credentials and will start my program at Santa Clara University in January 2023. I am both excited and blessed to have been hired here in this community.
Though I am not entirely new to teaching, creating a routine where I can ensure my students are learning is important and should take priority. Through administration I have found mentorship by being evaluated and given helpful suggestions to better my teaching approach. Thanks to my fellow staff members, I have been able to obtain resources for my classroom. I have learned of Junior High’s expectations and directions. This school aims to prepare students for success, and thus I ask you to join me in nurturing that goal.
