Mrs. Anna Rodriguez
1st Grade Teacher
Has been teaching at Resurrection since: 2018
Anna Rodriguez comes to Resurrection School with over twenty years of experience working in education through employment or as a volunteer. She is an alumna of St. Martin and Archbishop Mitty High School, where her mother has worked for 30 years. Anna was born on an Air Force base in the Mojave Desert where her father was stationed at the time. It was during her middle school years when she began volunteering as a catechist alongside her parents and extended family. As a young adult, she and her family received a special honor from Bishop Pierre DuMaine for their collective 100 years of service to the diocese as catechists.
Anna has worked with students in Kindergarten through eighth grade, most recently having spent the last five years in first grade at another diocesan school. Anna holds a B.A. in English and Creative Writing. She is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and the International English Honor Society. Anna attributes her pursuit of earning a degree in English and writing to her Catholic middle school English Language Arts teacher, whom she still sees around Sunnyvale. Anna showed an early talent and love for writing, even asking Santa for a typewriter when she was eight years old. She interviewed extended family members and created a family newspaper, selling it to aunts, uncles, and grandparents only to save up to buy more writing supplies. It is this excitement that Anna brings to her students. She uses a lot of humor in her teaching and has often been regarded by her students as the funniest teacher they’ve had.
Over the years, she has remained close to many of her former students and their parents. Every year, without fail, Anna is contacted by a former student who informs her that they’ve taken her Christmas gift with them to college, or from a parent who says they still incorporate Anna’s gift to her former students into their family’s holiday traditions. It is Anna’s genuine love for her work and her students that have given her such unique success in the classroom. Knowing that first grade is a big year for learning to read fluently, add and subtract fluidly, and write independently, she works tirelessly to instill confidence in each child. She uses all academic lessons as an opportunity to promote responsibility in her students and respect for others and themselves, which are imperative qualities in creating lifelong learners and outstanding individuals. She loves hearing her first graders encourage one another in class. Anna knows she’s doing her job when her students say they don’t want the day to end, or in the morning, when they say they are excited for what they are going to learn that day!
Anna is a wife and mother of two daughters, one having graduated from St. Cyprian and Mitty, with her youngest currently attending Resurrection. In her spare time, Anna enjoys playing games with her family, watching movies, including black and white films, watching or attending sporting events, listening to music, reading and writing everyday. Anna and her family feel blessed to join the Resurrection community where they have been greatly welcomed.
